Reduction in post‐operative pancreatic fistula with polyethylene glycol and recombinant human albumin sealant following stapled distal pancreatectomy

چکیده
Background Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) remains a significant cause of morbidity in patients undergoing distal pancreatectomy (DP). The use polyethylene glycol (PEG) and recombinant human albumin sealant gel applied to the transected margin DP may reduce POPF rates was assessed. Methods A retrospective single centre cohort study patient at an Australian high volume tertiary institution between January 2015 2021. Rates stapled transection with PEG were compared other methods. Results total 54 cases identified for analysis, 16 combined staple line application (PEG group). Most control group had 92% (35 38), 47% (18 38) reinforcing buttress, or without glue types. Overall, 28 (52%) developed POPF, significantly lower rate (3 vs. 25 38 Control group; p = 0.003). Clinically Grade B/C (0 9 0.045), shorter median (range) length hospital stay (6 [4–14] days 10 [6–41] 0.04). Conclusion Stapled appears be associated clinically POPF.

Oral Food Intake Versus Fasting on Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula After Distal Pancreatectomy
The usefulness of enteral nutrition via a nasointestinal tube for patients who develop postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) after miscellaneous pancreatectomy procedures has been reported. However, no clear evidence regarding whether oral intake is beneficial or harmful during management of POPF after distal pancreatectomy (DP) is currently available. To investigate the effects of oral food i...
متن کاملGastric wall-covering method prevents pancreatic fistula after distal pancreatectomy.
BACKGROUND/AIMS Pancreatic fistula is the most common complication after distal pancreatectomy. The aim of this study was to evaluate retrospectively the usefulness of a new surgical technique, the gastric wall-covering method, after distal pancreatectomy. METHODOLOGY The study group consisted of 53 patients who underwent distal pancreatectomy. The management of the stump of the remnant pancr...
متن کاملPreventing pancreatic fistula after distal pancreatectomy: An invagination method
Following an increase in the use of the GIA stapler for treating a pancreatic stump, more techniques to prevent postoperative pancreatic juice leakage have been required. We describe one successful case using our new technique of invaginating the cut end of the pancreas into the stomach to prevent a pancreatic fistula (PF) from occurring. A 50-year-old woman with pancreatic cancer in the tail o...
متن کاملRisk factors for postoperative pancreatic fistula after laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy using stapler closure technique from one single surgeon
Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) is a safe and reliable treatment for tumors in the body and tail of the pancreas. Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is a common complication of pancreatic surgery. Despite improvement in mortality, the rate of POPF still remains high and unsolved. To identify risk factors for POPF after laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy, clinicopathological variab...
متن کاملPlasma expansion by polyethylene-glycol-modified albumin.
Systemic inflammatory response conditions are associated with capillary leak and haemodynamic compromise. Fluid resuscitation to reverse the ensuing hypovolaemia is, however, complicated by the decreased endothelium reflection coefficient to albumin and other colloids. We developed PEG-Alb (albumin covalently linked to polyethylene glycol) as a potential resuscitative agent. PEG was covalently ...
